Electric cars pollute more than diesel - proof inside!

Everyone knows electric cars run on coal-powered electricity. Since coal is dirtier than diesel, it's obvious EVs are worse for the planet. All my neighbours who bought EVs still get power from a coal plant, and air quality hasn't improved, so EVs clearly make no difference.

  • This argument commits a **hasty generalisation**: you extrapolate from a handful of neighbours to the whole grid. Life-cycle analyses (e.g. *Nature* 2024) show EVs emit less CO₂ than diesel in 93 % of regions, even when grid mix includes coal. You also ignore that diesel production/refining has its own emissions.
